Stressed out or in pain? Deep breath!

Were you in line with the crowds to get a new iPhone this week? Now, that’s what I call a real pain in the neck!

Seriously, I hope one of your thoughts was…deep breath!

As a chiropractor, I see patients with neck pain and many other conditions caused by stressful situations. And you may be surprised by how much “proper” breathing from your diaphragm can help.

Easy to learn, just take a minute to try this for me:

Breathe in slowly through your nose and count to 10.

Sitting up straight, place your hand on your lower abdomen to make sure your stomach doesn’t move.

Hold your breath for 10 more counts.

Wait for it…

Then breathe out slowly through your mouth to the count of 10.

Feel your stomach expand.

You’ll get more oxygen, feel better, have more energy and feel less stress.

What’s not to like about that?! Whether you’re sitting in traffic or waiting in line, it’s easy to do.
